PIERRE BERGIAN

Pierre Bergian  (born 1965, Bruges)  studied Art History and Archaeology at Ghent University and has a passion for architecture.  He explores the essence of space and light, the sense of a void, depicting architectural interiors oscillating between spartan Roman villas and Georgian rooms  replete with paintings and sculptures.  He imagines a fascinating wealth of material reflected in his work often through semi muted colours of differing shades of white, grey, blue and brown/gold.  

 

I have always found  Pierre Bergian’s work mesmerizing and long to visit the rooms he has created and to walk in one’s mind through a shut door or carefully painted opening through marble columns beyond into the unknown space.   Of equal interest are his landscapes using a low light on empty streets near the sea or the dawn gleaming on a honey coloured italian piazza.  

 

Bergian’s fine paintings  of Hubert de Givenchy’s richly decorated residence the Hotel d’Orrouer were on exhibition as part of the sale of Givenchy’s art collection at Christie’s Paris 2022. 

 

In Bergian’s exhibition last year An Ode to Rome at Antichita Alberto di Castro, Rome, he followed the footsteps of many northern european artists who absorbed the history and wonders of this great city, always aware of artists travelling to and absorbing its greatness and history.
