NANCY CADOGAN

Nancy Cadogan’s career has been marked by successive exhibitions guided by different personal and worldwide events.  She is celebrated for her figurative works with their profound engagement with literature, time, reflection  and the still moments of life.

Her 2017 exhibition Still Reading suggests a story about to be told or yet to be written. It's a fascinating capture of reality and space between here and there, the past, present and future,  open and closed.

Nancy’s successful 2019 show, Mind Zero, at the Saatchi Gallery, signaled a new direction for the artist, which saw her work shift from observational looking and perspective, to painting from the imagination, a process she admits has been more challenging but also rewarding.  Her development towards colour and movement has enabled her to explore and create a more sensory experience that collapses boundaries between reality and the imagined…and rewards those who look deeply with care.

Her subsequent exhibition Gusto in 2020 was commissioned by, and shown at, the Keats-Shelly House in Rome, celebrating the life and legacy of the poet to mark the 200th anniversary of his death.

Recent paintings include a series of ethereal and calm works portraying everyday life in a palette of pinks, bottle greens or shadowy blue light revealing more than the stillness of each character.  The artist invites us into worlds that can be felt but not always seen.

Her current, travelling project, The Lost Trees, is an exploration of the emotional and environmental significance of trees, and was initially sparked by the felling of trees in Cadogan's neighbourhood for HS2. Here, she witnessed the community’s grief and personal memories that emerged, uncovering profound bonds people hold with these cherished specimens.  Shown at The Garden Museum last year, the paintings will be shown at Compton Verney from 2 October 2026.

A new body of work At the Bend in the River - bringing together landscape and threads of local history, will be shown at Benningborough Hall, Yorkshire from 10 October 2026.

The srtist is working hard for her next exhibnition, more images will be forthcoming.
