JONATHAN DELAFIELD COOK

Jonathan Delafield Cook (born 1965, London) trained as an architectural draughtsman in Japan, winning many awards for his detailed drawings, returning to England to study at the Royal College of Art, where he received the Darwin Scholarship.

 

When I first saw Jonathan’s work the extraordinary attention to detail of his subject matter, animals, sea creatures, flora and fauna as well as geology, struck a great chord in me: it showed his huge interest in, and knowledge of,  the natural world. His work juxtaposes art and science and is meticulous in portraying his subject matter in a unique manner.  It takes time to grasp the complexity of his use of charcoal and to revel in the depths of the black he can create and the lightness of a delicate peony petal. 

 

Jonathan’s work has been shown in many exhibitions in the UK, Australia and Europe and is held in the British Museum, London, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, Rugby School and the Ten Cubed Collection, Melbourne.

 

Jonathan accepted my commission of a huge tree peony lactiflora flower and will always consider other commissions.
